Fernando Alonso's time on track was cut short when the Spaniard blew up his Renault engine in the first free practice session. According to the team's head of engine operations, Denis Chevrier, the team wasn't that surprised when it blew even though it did cost Alonso a bit of valuable time on track.
McLaren drivers Heikki Kovalainen and Lewis Hamilton finished Friday's second Free Practice for the Santander British Grand Prix in Silverstone in first and third positions respectively. Kovalainen did 35 laps and set a best time of 1m19.989 whilst Hamilton completed 31 laps and ended up with a 1m20.543. In the morning session, Heikki was second fastest with 1m19.587 (15 laps) whilst Lewis was third with 1m19.623 (13 laps).
British GP: Practice notes - McLaren
It was a busy day of preparation work for the Williams drivers at Silverstone today. At the team's home track, drivers Nico Rosberg and Kazuki Nakajima, having already benefited from a three day test here last week, continued their set-up work ahead of tomorrow's qualifying and Sunday's British Grand Prix.

It was a difficult start of the British Grand Prix weekend for the Toyota team. Timo Glock missed most of the second free practice session due to a problem with his clutch while Jarno Trulli spun off as his rear wing broke all of a sudden.
