Force India Formula One Team's gamble of putting in a series of laps in the opening 10 minutes, when the weather was dry, and then a final flying lap in the dying minute following a brief shower, so nearly paid dividends. Giancarlo Fisichella looked set to move himself into the top 15 on his very last lap, until a spin in the last sector put paid to his chance. The Italian will start in 20th position, with team-mate Adrian Sutil just ahead in 19th.

AT&T Williams had a difficult qualifying session for Sunday's British Grand Prix at Silverstone today. Having suffered with an unresolved suspension issue all weekend, Nico Rosberg was forced out of Q1 in P18. Kazuki Nakajima fared only slightly better making it into Q2 but was restricted to P15, the conclusion of a lack of grip and an underperforming car.

Mark Webber is enjoying an extremely good British Grand Prix weekend at Silverstone. From the start of the weekend Webber could be found among the fastest drivers on track with his Red Bull car. The Australian will start Sunday's race from the front row.

The Toyota drivers Timo Glock and Jarno Trulli were targeting a top ten qualifying position ahead of Sunday's British Grand Prix. Both drivers though failed to make it into the final qualifying session. Jarno Trulli will start from P14 while team mate Timo Glock will start from P12.

Kovalainen takes maiden pole alongside Webber

Heikki Kovalainen will start Sunday's British Grand Prix from pole position. The Finn was clearly the fastest man in the final qualifying session. He will be joined on the front row by Red Bull Racing driver Mark Webber. Behind the duo we'll see Kimi Raikkonen and Lewis Hamilton line up in the second row at the grid.

A number of F1 team bosses have given their blessing to the British Grand Prix being switched to Donington Park from 2010.

F1 team founder Sir Frank Williams was happy to hear the news on Friday that the British Grand Prix is saved for the next ten years. As of 2010 the British Grand prix will be held at Donington Park though instead of Silverstone.

Renault's Fernando Alonso sets the pace in final practice at the British Grand Prix, with Lewis Hamilton again behind McLaren team-mate Heikki Kovalainen.
