Positive qualifying for the BMW Sauber F1 Team - Robert Kubica qualified third for the maiden event at the Valencia street circuit. Nick Heidfeld finished qualifying for the European Grand Prix in eighth.

McLaren Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton will start Sunday's European Grand Prix from the front row of the grid. In Saturday's exciting qualifying, Lewis posted a fastest lap of 1m39.199 which put him second. His team-mate Heikki Kovalainen qualified fifth with a time of 1m39.937. 

Today's pole was the sixth of the season for Ferrari, the fourth courtesy of Felipe Massa, while Kimi Raikkonen qualified fourth: that's the outcome of qualifying for the European Grand Prix. The Brazilian thus starts from the number one spot for the thirteenth time in his career and it brings the Scuderia's pole tally in the Formula 1 World Championship to 201.
