Spyker Cars has finally confirmed the acquisition of Midland F1 Racing. The new team will be called Spyker MF1 Racing and will be a 100% subsidiary of Spyker.

As reported exclusively earlier this week by F1Racing.net, MF1Racing has officially been sold to Spyker. In a delayed press release issued late on Saturday evening, Midland confirmed the deal. In2007 the team will be renamed Spyker MF1Racing. The Dutchman Michiel Mol made the deal possible and his consortium has acquired all the team's shares. The other good news is that Mike Gascoyne will join the team as the new Chief Technology Officer.

Fernando Alonso has been demoted to tenth on the grid for allegedly impeding Felipe Massa. Alonso was running ahead of Massa in the dying moments of the session. The FIA Stewards have ruled that Fernando Alonso impeded Felipe Massa in the qualifying session at Monza. As a result of this the Spaniard's best three qualifying laps have been removed and that means that he drops to 10th on the grid.

The Midland F1 team was due to announce its sale to a consortium led by Dutchman Michiel Mol at 7pm this evening, but the official word has been delayed.
