Fernando Alonso Cheats, Blocks Lewis Hamilton To Take Pole
August 4th, 2007It looks like Fernando Alonso has been taking lessons from Michael Schumacher. In a disgusting display of poor sportsmanship it appears that Fernando and his crew deliberately held up Lewis Hamilton to prevent him turning his final fast lap in qualifying.
Ron Dennis appeared livid as he saw this sad event take place, snatching the headphones from Alonso’s pit board man and marching him down pit lane it was clear he was extremely angry.
Lewis Hamilton had been clearly fastest throughout qualifying and it looks like Fernando decided that the only way to get pole was to prevent Lewis from getting his fast lap.
This kind of behaviour reminds me of a certain Ferrari driver of times past and I have personally lost a huge amount of respect for Mr. Alonso after this incident and I applaud Lewis for his typical low key, let the facts speak for themselves attitude during the post quali interviews.
Fernando, I hope you are ashamed of yourself for this pathetic behaviour.

this shows that lewis is actually a better driver than alonso. he took it with grace. and these are the great signs that show agreat personality, sportsmanship and stuff that makes champs
I agree 100%
Alonso did it on purpose. He is extremely dissatisfied with the performances of Hamilton and is willing to work against his own team to reach his ends. A truly despicable human being.
Alonso is much better. refrain your tongues
Pak. Get a brain.
Alonso CLEARLY held up Hamilton, as proved by Ron Dennis’ reaction – do you think a team bosswould react that way if he had PLANNED it?
It was out of order and he’s a moany whingy racing driver who even finds it hard to be happy when he wins!
Oh and he lied in the press conference.
Kudos to Lewis for handling it with dignity…although I personally think Alonso should be banned from racing tomorrow.
By cheating he admits he isn’t good enough to win through driving alone.
Pak, refrain YOUR tongue.

I think this is just the start of the old serpent in the hen house story. Alonso is just now showing his true colors. He must be very scared of falling to 2ond Driver for McLaren. It must be a very fragile ego for him to have sullied himself so low.
I knew it! At one point or another Alonso will display his true self and this is one of them….
Go Hamilton! Thrash him!
Dear neighbors in the Islands.
“It’s truth universally acknocledged” (Jane Austin said) that reading the news makes you more capable and open-minded. But please, guys, read the whole article, not just the part supporting your national passions.
“Little Spoilt Lewis” just does as he pleases. He was told the team strategy was different for six times… but he wouldn’t listen. He pushed and pushed (read international sources not just British biased ones.
In my opinion, Lewis is a fantastic driver (I mean fast that’s all) but the number-one sticker on the car belongs TO FERNANDO, not McLarens.
Plus; Who cheats here? It’s Fernando who sets up the car (and that’s 75% of the race strategy). Lewis wouldn’t set up an alarm clock if his life depended on it!
Alonso its much better, alonso only did what the team asked him to do!
Brits, your news papers are s**t,every one nows that in Europe, you only see what you want to see!
Mclaren without Alonso and pedro de la rosa its just S**t! In Spain nobody talks s**t about Lewis or Mclaren,we only talk about how s**t are your news paper talking bull s**t! Read News paper from around the world, they think really different!
I do agree with Josema Garcia.
1. Lewis is not a bad driver, BUT all the set ups are done by Fernando, so normally Lewis is taking advantage of this, as they are a team.
2. Lewis made the mistake first, although I do not agree with Fernando response.
3. How about the exchange of words between Lewis and Ron? Still civilised?
From Romania,
Calin.
Oh please!!!Hamilton took it with grace?Don’t make me laugh. He went off like a baby and cried about it and when no one paid attention he had a hissy fit over the radio so people would take notice.
I’m not saying that what Fernando did was right or wrong. Only he and his team know what really happened but what’s obvious is that Hamilton was scared if he couldn’t start in first position. He only wins races when he starts first….it’s pretty easy to win when all you have to do is defend the first spot with a great car. The hard part is defending your position while fighting for the one that is ahead of you. This, unfortunatly, is something that Hamilton has no clue of doing. It takes experience and skill for that and the only person on the McLaren team that has both is Fernando Alonso.
I think there should be an opinion from a non bias country and should see how the media is treating this situation. I can understand that Enlgand loves Lewis.I mean, they go to any lengths to claim him the new “wonder-boy”. It’s only natural that Spain tries to defend all the backstabbing the team is doing to Fernando. But the funny thing is that other countries ALSO see the injustice that is being commited. Then, who is right? The boy with a country that stands alone or the man with many countries – and F1 lovers – that see things for what they really are.
I really hope that Fernando wins this year and not because I like Fernando or because I think he is a good driver. No, I hope he wins so that Hamilton’s bubble finally breaks and all of you “Lewis-lovers” finally see things the way they are….although, judging from other comments, you will most likely say that Fernando cheated and stole the victory from Lewis. Either way, it will be a sweet victory.
Hamilton is a cheat and not a team player as all the people could see at end of the race when he was alone. FIA prefers Hamilton because is British…. and all we know the weight that… What would happen if instead Alonso and Hamilton were Fisichella and Kovalainen? No investigation, NOTHING.
ok, denis said that it was hamiltons fault, and even hamilton said because he didn’t follow team orders, so go alonso, you are the one who followed team orders, and you get punishe for it that sucks
Alonso was one of my fav drivers but after the foul play i’ve lost a huge amount of respect for the guy. I think alonso will move to ferrari, i’d like to see mclaren take on Jenson Button, would be good to see a all british team, and i’m sure the relationship between button and hamilton would work superbly
Mikey talks a lot of sense re. Jenson and Lewis.
Leave some of these spoilt foriegn drivers to pull their tricks in there own countries. If they want to drive in F1 then abide be the rules. You only have to look at some of the Spanish web sites to see how biased they are. As for Sam ,If you took all the S–t words out then there would be nothing left.Come to think of it the rest is Sh–e anyway!! Good Luck Lewis **
Hamilton is turning out to be two faced. It’s like the kid in school who hits you, and you get caught hitting him back and you get punished?
Little Lewis set Alonso off by trying to play a mind game with a guy (Alonso) who won’t put up with it.
Then Lewis the little weasel is the one who called the stewards for help! Not to mention all the F-bombs he threw at Ron, the guy he owes everything to. And with Alonso safely demoted to 6th Lewis had a day off at the front with pressure from no one.
Then he publicly says he harbors no grudges toward Alonso, and Alonso won’t talk to him. He’s lucky Fernando doesn’t whip his ass, because I think it’s what he needs.
Hamilton is a monster in the making, we’re only scratching the surface of this guys lack of character. Remember character is shown by what you do as well as what you say.
I am sure you are all aware that yes Lewis DISOBEYED team orders BUT why wait till he gets to the pit exit waiting for the lights to go green and then say to him erm make way for king hissy fit Fernando?
Sorry Lewis saw Kimi directly behind Alonso and knew if Alonso went through so also was Kimi, unless those of you speaking here hate Lewis so much that you wanted Kimi ahead of him on the track then please speak objectively.
Lewis was out of order speaking to Ron the way he did and he should have obeyed the so called team orders. What I really want to know is why they did not send king hissy fit out first before Lewis?
Alonso cost the team Constructors points not Lewis because if Alonso had any dignity he would have waited till after the qualifiers to voice his opinion with Ron not make it PUBLIC by blocking his team mate.
I am not a fan of Michael Schumacher but even he would not have done that because he know the right outcome would have come by keeping it internal.
My verdict SHAME ON ALONSO.
George,
I don’t think it was Lewis who went to the Stewards.
The Stewards had already cocked up by not punishing Fisi earlier for his blocking move also.
I believe to justify their punishing Fisi they had to punish Alonso.
The weasel here is you for talking utter rubbish.
I seem to remember also that Alonso is also a two-faced liar.
1. When he was making hand gestures at the pit wall because he tried to over take Lewis at the US GP and Lewis will not let, he said at the interview he was cooling his engine.
2. When he whinged in Spain that he is not treated like a number one driver, he denied ever making those quotes and that he was misquoted. Yo hablo poco espanyol Alonso es un mentiroso.
3. The Smirk on his face when it was reported to him that Lewis crashed in Germany following mechanical wheel nut failure or whatever, he pretended to say I hope he is fine while carrying a smile that suggested he was glad of the outcome.
All I know is no matter how many world championships he wins he will never be world class, Kimi will wipe the floor with him just as Lewis is doing right now in the same machinery!!!
Also you made a comment about Alonso setting up the cars and that Lewis drives Alonso’s set? I seem to remember that the team were respecting Alonso’s request that his engineers never share information with Lewis’s Engineers? So for the past 4 races Lewis has had his own set up, so keep stummmmmmmm
1. Aloso did not cost McLaren the constructor’s points, the stewards did; and they did so attempting to help Ferrari. Last year at Monaco Schumi was sent to the back of the grid for impeding a competitor but they didn’t lift any points from Ferrari, did they? Why yesterday? Against McLaren? It should have been left as an internal McLaren problem as no other team was affected by the incident.
2. And I think we can all agree the stewards screwed up in punishing Fisi, so that justifies screwing McLaren as well????
3. All great driver’s have shown negative sides to their personalities. My point about Hamilton is he is two faced, publicly attempting to portray himself as the good guy when he has a nasty streak like everybody else, including Alonso.
4. You have to translate your Spanish comment as I don’t la habla Espaniol. Along with “….keep stummmmmmmm”????
The one point I think all the commenters can agree upon is that Ron has a tiger by the tail. For the first time in his career I feel he is at a loss over which guy to support and how to do it without causing more turmoil. If he had been honest with the stewards and admitted Alonso did it on his own, (which I think he did) they may not have docked him the team points. I still think they were wrong, but I also think Ron compounded the problem with his double talk.
I would really like to see Hamilton and Alonso fight it out on the track as oposed to the pit lanes. In my humble opinion Alonso will leave at the end of the year, and the FIA will screw McLaren at the end of August and gift the team title to Ferrari any way.
I agree with George, alhough im a huge fan of Hamilton sorry but no one can sway me there sorry, why is it that McLaren are being punished not Alonso himself, put him back to 6th would normally have been an easy comeback for him, he is a fantastic driver.
McLaren being punished just goes to show that it wasnt Alonso in the wrong here, indeed he was just following orders otherwise they would have stopped him getting the points not McLaren getting constructor points. Alonso is a good team member in the fact that he listens to what he is told granted that Lewis doesnt, but my problem comes indeed from when Lewis had the crash i mean even Schumi was concerned and he is with Ferarri, it just worries me on how low things are going in F1 these days, its unfair to keep one thing in the limelight and not the other.
I mean what about Heidfeld shunt on R.Schumi a few weeks ago, he got nothing and he had to retire that was highly unfair, its all ratings and its harsh to those who are here to win not gain publicity.
It would be nice to see that all those people who started off by saying Alonso was a cheat and Hamilton ” took it with grace” accept that they were possibly the most wrong a human being has been in history as we all now no that it was Lewis’ fault – and yet it was Alonso who got the penalty. hardly fair, but thats how things go. Lewis is an arogant, stuck up jerk who needs to be taught some manners. make him driver a spyker for the rest of the season- teach him some manners – how he spoke to Ron was out of order, as was the time he slagged of Backmarkers, and Schumacher AND Senna
Sean: I think when you have two drivers who both have a chance to win the championship you are going to have some rivalry.
It is important to note that Lewis did not use foul language when speaking to Ron, and Ron has confirmed that this was reported in the press but was completely untrue.
Lewis admited that he was out of order during qualifing and that was wrong, but what Alonso did was also very wrong and a childish way to retaliate. This problem could have been solved within the team after the race but Alonso wanted to make a point and he payed for his actions, as did the whole team.
There is no doubt that they both behaved badly and in the end it cost the team. I think this rivalry will continue, especially if the race for the championship remains so close but I also think this stuff is going to be kept within the team more than ever now.
Sean if there ever was an award for stupidity you would win it everytime!!
Lewis Hamilton Slagged off Senna?? where in Gods name did you get that from? Erm I seem to remember him saying his racing helmet is that colour as a mark of respect to Senna.
About this being Hamiltons fault is equally as laughable because disobeying team orders is one thing, behaving like a spoilt little brat is a completely other thing.
I am sure you have been involved in something in your life where you work as a team, for example in you house where you live and you have brothers and sisters, if one of them upsets you, you keep it in the family.
Behaving childishly so the whole world can see is not the answer 20% Hamiltons fault and 80% Alonso’s, deal with it Sean.
And if Alonso is so great a driver why is he crying when the team do not enforce number 2 status on Lewis? If you think Alonso’s pertulent behaviour is only to do with Lewis disobeying Team orders that one time then you need to check the facts a bit more.
He slagged off backmakers because they seem to jump out of the way for Massa, Kimi and Alonso but when it is the turn of Lewis they seem to take eternity.
Australian GP the reason Alonso was able to jump Lewis to finish second was because backmakers were behaving like MONKEYS.
Him slagging off MS is uncalled for but hey MS’s legacy sometimes calls for it.
So Sean as much as you hate Lewis Hamilton be civil and be objective.
Alonso has been proved to be a cheat, read the FIA verdict. Alonso used to be a nice guy and a good driver, now he is a childish premadonna who needs to accept that the Lewis Hamilton’s of the world are going to kick his ass in the long run. I just cannot understand why Ron does not fire him.
Mark
llllllllleeeeeeeeeeewwwwwwwwwwwiiiiiiiiiiiiiiissssssss
wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwooooooooooonnnnnnnnnnnn
stop dweling on the past
Well done Alonso!!! L
He should do it more often
