Both Red Bull Racing drivers, David Coulthard and Mark Webber, have said that they think the new tire regulation requiring teams to run both tire compounds during a race is “Silly”.
Coulthard and Webber have serious doubts that it will achieve the intended result of a more interesting race. I have to admit that I figured it might have a positive impact in this regard but they make some good points.
The Red Bull drivers feel that every team will do exactly the same thing which is run your quickest tires first and then put your slowest set on for the end of the race. The reasoning is that so little passing happens at the end of the race that the tire change will be of little impact. The impact is further reduced by the fact that all the teams will do exactly the same thing.
Coulthard also seems a little bitter in his parting shot on this matter ..
“But, you know, what the drivers say about that is absolutely not important…”
Fair enough David, but if the change makes no difference then what are you complaining about?

Renault has launched their new R27 Formula One car for the 2007 season. With some significant Aerodynamic updates and of course the new paint scheme Renault is hoping this car will bring them their 3rd Championship in a row.
There is a nice gallery of pictures over at f1racing.net showing off the new look for 2007.
It is such an exciting time of year as all the teams start rolling out their new hardware with the Renault R27 being one of the major contenders for 2007.
Good luck to Renault and their new R27. See you all on the track.

It looks like Fernando Alonso is in a very positive frame of mind about starting the season with the McLaren Team.
“I don’t know how the Ferrari is, how the Renault is, but I have full confidence in ourselves,” Alonso said at a team conference recently. “If that info on paper is real on the track we will have a very good car. I think we will be strong.”
I think it is a bit early yet to be hoping that the specs on paper have anything to do with how his car will perform on race day. I’m really hoping to see some great results from Fernando and Lewis with the new McLaren team but I’ll hold off until after the first race before I decide how the season is looking for them.

Kovalainen turned the fastest lap times a the final day of testing in Jerez. His Renault F1 partner had the second fastest time.
It looks like the new R27 car is showing some potential. As always, I can’t wait to see how they go in the first race of the season. Until then, it’s all just speculation.
