McLaren tester Oliver Turvey became the first man to drive the team's 2012 challenger at Jerez on Saturday, completing a range of system checks behind the wheel of the MP4-27 before pre-season running kicks off at the same Andalusian venue next week.

Giedo van der Garde has admitted that agreeing terms with Caterham F1 for the 2012 season will ultimately prove to be a highly fruitful career choice, with the Dutchman now signed up as the squad's official reserve driver. Having negotiated with a number of teams over the winter break, the 26-year-old was delighted to finalise a deal.

Caterham has announced that Dutch driver Giedo van der Garde will be its official Reserve Driver in 2012.
