Official: Valentino Rossi joins Ducati

It was a public secret but was confirmed on Sunday evening: Valentino Rossi will join the Ducati team from 2011. After seven years at Yamaha the Italian multiple world champion will join the 'Rossa' next season. Ducati and Rossi signed a two-year agreement.

Earlier this evening Valentino Rossi has and the Yamaha team revealed that their partnership will come to an end at the end of the 2010 MotoGP season. After having joined the middle-class team in 2004 the multiple world champion has brought Yamaha many victories and a bike that is capable of winning races.

Valentino Rossi will not continue to race for the Yamaha factory team the Japanese bike manufacturer announced on Sunday evening. After seven years the Italian will move on to new challenges the team's press release said. Rossi is rumoured to join Ducati in 2011, but an official announcement is expected later this evening.

Mercedes Grand Prix test and reserve driver Nick Heidfeld is hired by Pirelli to test the tyre manufacturer's first set of Formula 1 tyres Spanish newspaper AS reports on Sunday. According to AS Heidfeld will be testing for three days at Mugello.

Buzaid snatches pit stop race victory at Silverstone

Brazilian racer Adriano Buzaid this morning became the ninth different race winner of the 2010 British F3 International Series, the Carlin driver snatching a brilliant win in the pit-stop sprint race on the Silverstone Grand Prix circuit. Buzaid’s storming pre-stop lap was the key to his victory ahead of early leader and pole position man Carlos Huertas.

Andrea Dovizioso (Repsol Honda) set the fastest lap time in the warm up session for the Cardion ab Grand Prix Czech Republic on Sunday morning, in a session which was overcast by the weather conditions. The Italian’s effort of 2’10.135 was 1.682s faster than that of any other rider, as the session started on a track which appeared to be drying out and was then marked by a rain shower at its conclusion.

The Grand Prix commission announced this weekend that from 2012 the 125cc class will be replaced by Moto3. Following the 250cc' replacement by Moto2 it was not a major surprise to see Moto3 receive the backup from FIM, IRTA and Dorna.

Third practice session to be reintroduced in MotoGP

The Grand Prix commission announced that it will reintroduce the third free practice session again. Since the last of last season MotoGP riders received just two free practice sessions ahead of qualifying but a third practice session will return as early as next month at the Gran Premio A-Style de Aragón.
