At a glance: Montreal race winners

Until 2009, 1987 had been the only year not to feature a Canadian Grand Prix since the event switched to Montreal in 1978. Although the track's layout may have changed since a time when the semi-street circuit hosted the season finale, its habit of delivering peculiar happenings in races remains to this day.

The Canadian Grand Prix dates back to 1967, when it first joined the calendar with a race at Mosport Park, which continued to host the event until 1977. However, Mont-Tremblant took the reigns twice in between (1968 and 1970) and the race took a year's sabbatical in 1975. Two years later, Montreal's Circuit de Gilles Villeneuve made its first appearance before it later took the name of its maiden pole-sitter.

Montreal makes a welcome return to Formula 1 this weekend after spending a year off in 2009. The semi-street, Île Notre-Dame track also signals the return to the calendar of North America and a venue which has long since possessed a reputation of throwing up bizarre race results.

Virgin adds Canada-specific car parts

Nick Wirth was pleased to see both Virgin Racing cars make the finish of the Turkish Grand Prix but stresses that the team now requires more of the same in order to keep on top of development work as best as possible. The team originally known as Manor GP will be racing with aerodynamic parts tailored to Montreal this weekend.

McLaren boss Martin Whitmarsh has spoken out in reference to claims that Lewis Hamilton is furious after teammate Jenson Button overtook him during the Turkish Grand Prix, contrary to what the 2008 champion had been told over his radio.

McLaren Team Principal Martin Whitmarsh has explained that Lewis Hamilton's information - stating that Jenson Button would not pass him in the Turkish Grand Prix - was an opinion of engineers, as opposed to a definite answer. The leading driver questioned his team over the matter shortly before being overtaken by his team-mate.
