Kobayashi quickest on Day 2

Sauber's Kamui Kobayashi popped in a late 1:19 to go quickest in the closing moments of testing at Jerez de la Frontera today. Sebastien Buemi had been the pace-setter for much of the day ahead of Jenson Button and Nico Hulkenberg.

Virgin plans front wing modification after breakage

Virgin Racing will be making changes to the front wing mounting area of its car after the part broke during testing on Thursday. With the front wing of Timo Glock's VR-01 having been scattered across the start/finish straight at Jerez, the Sheffield-based outfit was forced to sit out the rest of the day due to a shortage of components.

Mark Webber rounded off his 2010 pre-season test debut by registering 99 laps and finishing ninth on Jerez's Thursday timesheets. After suffering from an oil leak and consequently losing over four hours of running time on Wednesday, the Australian was pleased to have been able to drive the new RB6 in dry conditions.

Jenson Button was confidently pleased with his latest run in the McLaren at Jerez. The World Champion, who claims he is now at his most comfortable in the Mercedes-powered car, completed a total of 82 laps on his way to Thursday's third fastest time.

Nico Hülkenberg caused the first of three red flags at Jerez on Thursday as his Williams stopped on-track just under half an hour into the session. Following repairs in the garage, the Cosworth-powered car eventually achieved 67 laps and the fourth best time of the day.

Michael Schumacher stepped into the cockpit of the Mercedes MGP W01 at Jerez on Thursday as the Brackley team is the only squad to alternate its drivers over the course of the 4-day test. The German completed a full race distance as he notched up a total of 124 laps, second only to the 129 from the Ferrari of Fernando Alonso.

Kamui Kobayashi and the Sauber team finished quickest as the sun finally shone on Jerez when testing continued on Thursday. The Japanese driver topped the timesheets by producing a last-gasp effort, with Sébastien Buemi having been quickest for most of a day which was punctuated by three red flag periods.
