Super Aguri simply glad to be on track
The Super Aguri team has shown unified courage and fighting spirit since its arrival in Montmelo this week for the 2008 Barcelona Grand Prix. Out on track today race drivers Takuma Sato and Anthony Davidson were finally the team's focuses once again for an atypical Friday at the Circuit de Catalunya.
Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen finished Friday practice for the Spanish Grand Prix at the top of the timesheets while team mate Felipe Massa ended up fifth.
Maldonado takes pole
McLaren Mercedes drivers Lewis Hamilton and Heikki Kovalainen finished today's second practice session in 11th and 16th places respectively. Lewis set a time of 1:22.685 whilst Heikki did 1:23.264. Lewis completed 33 laps and Heikki did eight. During the break between the sessions, the team changed the gearbox on Kovalainen's car following a problem with the oil pump. In the second session, Kovalainen stopped on the track, when a problem with the throttle control caused the engine safety system to activate.

Toyota struggled today at Barcelona as Jarno Trulli finished the day fourteenth and team mate Timo Glock ended up a lowly twentieth.

Honda's Jenson completed 34 laps during the course of a programme of race set-up work to end the day in 15th place, while Rubens completed 31 laps to be 17th, just 0.2s behind his team-mate.
Barcelona - Qualifying Times
The Force India Formula 1 team surprised a few as the team's drivers topped the timesheets halfway into the second free practice session. Giancarlo Fisichella and Adrian Sutil were well underway at Circuit de Catalunya and are hoping to be well prepared for Saturday's qualifying session. The team's target in Spain is clear: make it into Q2.

The Renault F1 drivers enjoyed the Spanish fans at Circuit de Catalunya as Fernando Alonso and Nelson Piquet finished second and third in Friday's second free practice session. The duo could complete the team's programme without any problems. Having spent four days testing in Barcelona last week, the team had completed lots of miles and so the day was spent fine-tuning the set-up and completing tyre evaluation.
Nico Rosberg and Kazuki Nakajima enjoyed a productive day of free practice at the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona today ahead of Sunday's Spanish Grand Prix. The AT&T Williams team mates both ended the afternoon session inside the top ten, Kazuki in fourth and Nico in seventh place. Under temperate conditions, the pair covered a combined 117 laps of the 4.655km track optimising set-up on their FW30s.

The BMW Sauber F1 Team had a smooth first practice day for the weekend of the Spanish Grand Prix. Drivers Robert Kubica and Nick Heidfeld did their preparation work according to the planned schedule during the two 90 minute practice sessions on the Circuit de Catalunya, which was the venue for intensive testing last week.

Ferrari driver Kimi Raikkonen completed the fastest lap in both the first and second free practice session at Circuit de Catalunya. Renault drivers Piquet and Alonso surprised a few as the duo completed the second and third fastest lap in the second 90-minute session on Friday.

Spanish GP: Friday Free 1 - Times
Kimi Raikkonen has set the fastest time in Friday's opening practice session at Circuit de Catalunya. The Ferrari driver was just ahead of his team mate Felipe Massa. The Ferrari duo was well ahead of Lewis Hamilton, Robert Kubica and Heikki Kovalainen who completed the top five. At his home track Fernando Alonso finished sixth.

The Super Aguri team will compete in this weekend's Spanish Grand Prix, the team has confirmed, despite not yet concluding a deal to secure its future.
Renault driver and double F1 champion Fernando Alonso doesn't have any high hopes for a podium finish this season. The Spaniard, who finished 49 times on the podium in his F1 career, believes his team is simply not strong enough this season to reach the podium in 2008.
