Williams team completed a full programme of preparatory work in today's two practice sessions for this Sunday's Malaysian Grand Prix, interrupted only by a problem with a clutch release bearing for Kazuki Nakajima in the morning session, which was quickly rectified. With a new asphalt surface at the Sepang Circuit, a wide variety of setup options were tried and all-important tyre options progressed ahead of a final hour of practice tomorrow morning. Weather reports suggested a possibility of rain, but both sessions were completed in the dry despite the humidity nudging 72% later in the afternoon.

Hot and humid conditions remained throughout the day as both drivers completed busy programmes of set-up work and tyre evaluation. Fernando was hampered with gearbox problems in the afternoon, depriving him of second gear, but the team opted not to make a change to continue with its scheduled programme. Nelson enjoyed a trouble-free day, covering a total of 71 laps, as the team concentrated on giving the young Brazilian maximum mileage ahead of his second Grand Prix.

Over the two free practice sessions for the Malaysian Grand Prix, the two F2008 of Kimi Raikkonen and Felipe Massa completed around one hundred laps. The day's technical programme, as usual for a Friday, centred on finding the best set up on the car and a comparison of the two types of tyre brought to the track by Bridgestone. Despite losing a bit of time in the morning session because of a misunderstanding between the pit wall and the garage left Kimi stranded on the track with no fuel, the programme was completed with almost no technical problems.

Felipe Massa was clearly the fastest man on Friday morning at the Sepang International Circuit. The Brazilian's fastest lap time, a 1m35,392, was over a second faster than his team-mate Kimi Raikkonen, though the Finn had to face another engine problem. Heikki Kovalainen ended third, followed by Nico Rosberg in fourth.
